ASRS – Automated Storage

Image_Automated_StorageKTH is a leading manufacturer of high quality automotive parts and components worldwide. To maintain our superior standards, we are implementing an automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) which can store and manage a combination of nearly 7,000 4’x4’ baskets, junior baskets, and plastic knock-down totes of automotive parts. The compact ASRS footprint allows us to store more parts per square foot than traditional rack storage methods. In-process parts are temporarily placed in storage until a downstream process requires them. Upon a request for parts, via a computer mounted on the forklift, the automated retrieval system will locate and retrieve the appropriate basket.

The automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) is managed by a computer database that tracks available storage locations as well as where each basket was placed during check-in. One of the benefits of this system is that operators have immediate access to the quantity and availability of all parts in storage.

By utilizing ASRS, KTH is able to free-up additional plant floor square footage for more production line activities.
